Tales of the Gold Monkey DVD 1982-1983 Adventure Series

One of the best adventure tv series. Tales of the Gold Monkey was written before the Indiana Jones saga was released, and its production has been refused by tv networks , being released only after the success of the Spielberg movie.

Broadcast on ABC in early 80s, the series became a massive hit following the success of Indiana Jones ‘Raiders of The Lost Ark’. This 22-hour long series is set in a backwater corner of the South Pacific a young American adventurer and his ragtag group of friends become involved in death-defying hi-jinx, transporting people-on-the-run in a well-worn Grumman Goose seaplane. Set in 1938, this series captures the ambiance and character of a mysterious romantic era.

Set in the South Pacific in 1938, the series is about an ex-Flying Tigers pilot named Jake Cutter (Stephen Collins). Now the operator of an air cargo delivery service based on the fictional South Seas island Bora Gora, he flies a red and white Grumman Goose called Cutter's Goose. Jake's best friend is his mechanic Corky (Jeff MacKay), a good-hearted alcoholic whose memory is hazy as a result of the quantity of booze he consumes. However, a one-eyed Jack Russell terrier named Jack, who barks once for "no" and twice for "yes" (or the opposite if it suits him) would dispute just who Jake's best friend really is. Jack wears an eye patch, but used to have a false eye made of opal with a star sapphire center that Jake lost in a poker game—and refuses to let Jake forget it.

Jake's love interest/U.S. Government spy contact is Sarah Stickney White (Caitlin O'Heaney). She sings in the Monkey Bar as a cover for her espionage activities. The Reverend Willie Tenboom (John Calvin), a phony man of the cloth who likes to "bless" the female natives in private "prayer", is in actuality a Nazi spy named Willy, with interests in both sides.

"Bon Chance" Louie (played by Ron Moody in the pilot, Roddy McDowall in the series) is the owner of the Monkey Bar and the French magistrate for Bora Gora. Jake's nemesis is the Japanese princess Koji (Marta DuBois), a Dragon Lady type of character who has eyes for Jake. Koji's devoted bodyguard is Todo (John Fujioka), a fierce practitioner of Bushido and loyal to the princess. (Although Calvin, DuBois and Fujioka were billed on the opening credits of each episode, they actually only appeared on a semi-regular basis in a handful of episodes.)

The title is derived from a valuable statue that is the focal point of the pilot episode, that is kept at the Monkey Bar for the rest of the series.

Tales of the Gold Monkey stars Stephen Cohen as Jake Cutter he flies a plane in the south Pacific called Cutter's goose. He frequents a bar called the Monkey Bar run by Bon Chance" Louie (Ronny McDonwell). Masquering as a singer at the club is Sara Stickney White (Caitlin O'Heaney) who is really a spy.

Most notably, the series was a major influence of the Disney cartoon show , Tailspin. The cartoon included a plane, called and similar character as the TV show.

Donald P. Bellisario is the creator of Tales of the Gold Monkey and thought of the ideal for the series in the late 70's. He was not successful getting the series launched at first. However, after the sucess of "Raiders of the Lost Ark" in 1981, ABC decided to develop the series.

She-Ra: Princess of Power - 1980s Cartoon TV Series

She-Ra: Princess of Power TV Series

As He-Man and the Masters of the Universe hit the small screen and toys in 1983 and basically win male audiences, a spin-off was produced entitled She-Ra Princess of Power for female counterpart. She-Ra and He-Man share personalities and things almost exactly with each other, from their secret identities, source of power, allies and rides, strength & abilities, outsmart beating opponents, fight for their planet & people freedom, etc., but there's also slight differ between two series; He-Man was a lazy irresponsible being Prince Adam to hide his hero identity in a science fiction and technology focused show while She-Ra as Princess Adora in her energetic, tomboyish, strong-willed archetypical female as hero She-Ra in a more on swords and sorcery story line.

Prince Adam's twin-sister Princess Adora, daughter of Queen Marlena and King Randor of Eternia, was kidnapped by evil planet Etheria leader Hordak (he failed to conquer Eternia) in her infants, she grew in Etheria and used to work before. He-Man told Princess Adora her true identity, by the wielding the magic Sword of Protection with a crystal set and saying “For the Honor of Grayskull... I Am She-Ra!”. Transform Adora as the most powerful woman in the Universe - She-Ra and her steed Spirit into unicorn Swift Wind, and possesses superhuman strength, stamina, agility with special abilities to heal with her touch, a telepathic animal communications and change her sword into a shield, helmet, parachute, lasso, flaming blade, etc., at her command. Thundercats - 80s Animated TV Series

The Thundercats TV Series

Thundercats was a great fictional-mythology TV show created by Tobin “Ted” Wolf in 1983. A good-versus-evil sci-fi cartoon TV series featured human-cats from a distant planet who possesses powers from a mystic Sword of Omens and try to promote peace but evil-mutants chase them to gain powers resulting destructions. A much enjoyable, exciting, original and dynamic tv series with good mix of technology-magic, actions, combats and fantasy.

In a distant galaxy, once peaceful planet Thundera brought into it's near collapse/destruction as Mutants of Plun-darr led by centuries-old embodiment of evil Mumm-Ra terrorized the Thunderans to gain the Eye of Thundera embedded in the hilt of the mystical 'Sword of Omens' (source of Thundercats' powers), where Thunderans led by eldest sage/warrior 'Jaga The Wise', they were forced to evacuate the dying world, board starships and protect the twelve year old sole heir “Lion-O”. Some ships were destroyed and with low-fueled half powered-engine ship, Jaga let 7 on board in the stasis tubes while he sacrifice (turn his body into dust) to manually land in a planet called Third Earth. Awakening from their suspension capsules, Lion-O aged and matured (about aged of 24), with his fellow Thundercats who trained him (Panthro's strength, Cheetara's high-speed, Tygra'a powerful mind, Wilykat & Wilykyt's cunning abilities and his nurse Snarf) they build the Cat's Liar headquarters, he use the power of Sword of Omens and code of Thundera (uphold Justice, Truth, Honor and Loyalty) to restore peace, continue his people's legacy and to weaken, revert and slink back evil Mumm-Ra into his pyramid.

The Thundercats Animated TV series was premiered on January 23, 1985 (pilot episode) and ended December 7, 1986, completed two seasons with 65 episodes each, now full seasons 1-2 and 130 episodes available on DVD.

Hercule Poirot, a fictional, brilliant Belgian Detective who had a long glorious career, who finished every case with a dramatic dénouement, confirming he has “the greatest mind in Europe”. Poirot's first published appearance was in Agatha Christie's novel The Mysterious Affair at Styles (published 1920), with many influence from other two fictional detectives (Marie Lowndes' “Hercule Popeau” and Frank Evans' “Monsieur Poiret”). A 5 feet 4 inches green eyed man, with egg-shaped head (which he perches to one side), has the blackest of hair (he use dye), his black waxed moustache is perfection (very stiff and military) and always wear patent leather shoes, neatly dressed with finest clothings and love finer things of life.

1989 Poirot TV series, short episodes based on Christie's short stories and long episodes on Christie's novels as a monumentally fastidious and arrogant detective in 1930s, he was the famous sleuth, using his mind as greatest tool in solving crimes the “little grey cells”, believing all crimes are psychological and evidence cannot solve it alone, he is a clue-based detective and depends on logic “order and method”. He focuses on traditional trail on clues; fingerprints, footprints, cigar ash, he was able to establish a thinking and enquiring into the nature of the victim and active pursuit of the psychology of the murderer, noting tiny details and freudian slips by asking a series of seemingly pointless questions. Poirot (David Suchet) was assisted by his life-long partner Captain Arthur Hastings (Hugh Fraser), a man with plenty of imagination but not a great deal of brains, and Poirot's terrifyingly efficient secretary Miss Felicity Lemon(Pauline Moran), together they solve complex crimes ranges around the world. Hastings first describe Poirot in The Mysterious Affair at Style:

"He was hardly more than five feet four inches but carried himself with great dignity. His head was exactly the shape of an egg, and he always perched it a little on one side. His moustache was very stiff and military. The neatness of his attire was almost incredible; I believe a speck of dust would have caused him more pain than a bullet wound."

The Poirot TV Series, debuted from January 1989 still continuing it's seasons in 2007 (Season 13), all credits from Christie's seventy-two Poirot stories (nearly sixty already produced), now seasons 1-9 with 64 episodes of Piorot available on DVD.

"Gummi Bears" Disney's Adventure

An animated TV series about seven anthropomorphic bears lived in medieval time at once populous big tree called Gummi Glen. The great gummies are refugees and looking for their ancient city with the help of their human friends and the Great Book of Gummi to resurrect the city and reunite all other bears scattered around the world. The bears are also the secret defenders of the Dunwyn Kingdom against former knight Duke Sigmund Igthorn and his created ogres army, but when the bears consume their secret Gummibeary juice give ability to bounce and also give human to temporarily become superhumans.

The seven gummies living Gummi Glen:

  • Gruffi - Gruffi also can be viewed as the de facto leader of the Gummi Bears. A no-nonsense, perfectionist and conservative every-job-Gummi.
  • Zummi - The colony's "keeper of Gummi wisdom" turned magician with unreliable skill. Frequently forgets important things, including spells, at the worst possible moment and does spoonerisms when stressed.
  • Grammi - The matriach of the Gummi clan, she cooks and cleans and prepares the gummiberry juice. Her cookings - which sometimes are purely experimental - are not always appreciated by the others.
  • Tummi - the gluttonous teenaged Gummi who is seemingly slow in thinking and action, but is as courageous as the rest. He has a sweet tooth and is a talented planter and loves building model boats.
  • Sunni - "token adolescent" of the bunch who often rebels against the clan but learns her lessons eventually. She is quite fond of rather 'radical' fashions. Her dream is to one day be a princess. Even though Sunni and Calla are best friends, Sunni occasionally displays mild jealously of Calla because she is a princess.
  • Cubbi - the youngest Gummi. An aspiring knight, he is always looking for adventure, and often finds it. Because of his youth, he is often not taken seriously by the others, which is just as frequently a huge mistake. When fighting crime at Dunwyn, he uses the masked identity of the Crimson Avenger.
  • Gusto (Augustus) - the artistic Gummi and an individualist, he lives away from Gummi Glen with his toucan friend, Artie Deco. Gusto is an artist who is very creative with mercurial moods depending on how well his (sometimes unsophisticated) work is going or being appreciated. He sometimes goes to Gummi Glen to visit the rest of the Gummis.

Gummi Bear Friends/Ally:
  • Cavin - Cavin is the squire of Sir Tuxford, the highest knight in King Gregor's court. Cavin befriends the Gummi Bears in the first episode and shares the same ambition as Cubbi - to become a knight. Cavin also had the medallion, given to him by his grandfather, that opened The Great Book of Gummi, the source of all Gummi Bear wisdom. The young squire also has a secret crush on Princess Calla.
  • Princess Calla - Princess Calla is the daughter of King Gregor, ruler of Dunwyn. She is an adventurous character and she often drags the dumbstruck Cavin (who she is overly fond of) into story situations. Calla also befriended the Gummi Bears and is close friends with Sunni. She hates the pomp and circumstance that comes with being royalty while wishing to be more involved in the governance and defense of the realm. Consequently, she tends to be somewhat rebellious at times, often spurning her father's admonishment that "a princess must set an example for her people."
  • King Gregor - King Gregor is the ruler of Dunwyn. He is a brave figure and protects his people from villains like Duke Igthorn with the help of Sir Tuxford and his knights. Gregor is unaware of the Gummi Bears' existence or involvement in saving his kingdom many times. His pride and joy is his daughter, Calla, which later included considerable respect of her previously hidden fighting prowess.
